Doctrine of Peace

VOLUME ONE - CHAPTER FIVE

Neglect not the gift that is in you, given you by prophecy, which is the laying on of the hands of the elders. For prophecy came by these holy men of God, speaking by the word of God.

Now, brethren, I speak to you by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying through doctrine. Speaking with the tongue is for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not. But prophesying, not for them that believe not, but for them which believe: despise not prophesying.

Greater is he that prophesies because the church receives edifying. Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace unto you. He that prophesies speaks into the man edification, and exhortation, and comfort, and edifies not himself but the church. Draw nigh unto God with your heart.

The prophet of the Highest goes before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God. To give light to them that sit in darkness, the shadow of death, and guides their feet into the way of peace. And prepares the way of the Lord, making his paths straight.

Many prophets and righteous men have desired to see that which you see, and have not seen; and to hear that which you hear, and have not heard. For God works a work in this day, and to this agree the words of the prophets. As it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up. And as he promised by his prophets in the holy scriptures, God now sets in the church, first apostles, second prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

And building upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, faith being the chief corner, you grow unto a holy temple of God. And God gives some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the perfecting of the saint, the edifying of the body. Take, my brethren, that you be mindful of the words spoken before by the holy prophets and of the commandments of the apostles of God our Saviour. Now made manifest by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God.
