Doctrine of Peace

VOLUME ONE - CHAPTER 15

The LORD God formed man, the dust of the ground, (rubbish of the earth), and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And all in whose nostrils the breath of life, of all that was in the dry, died. And it came to pass after these things, the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was not breath left in him.

I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. For that which befalls the sons of men (Spirit in the inner man) befalls beasts (spirit of the outward man); even one thing befalls them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man has no preeminence above a beast.

Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that goes downward to the earth? For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God. A righteous regards the life of his beast, having dominion over the body, and the cattle.

Therefore all the while my breath is in me and the spirit of God is in my nostrils, my lips shall not speak wickedness, my tongue utter deceit. The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life. If he set his heart upon man, he gathers unto himself his spirit and his breath.

Let every thing that has breath praise the LORD. He created the heavens, and spread forth the earth: he gives breath unto the people upon it, the spirit to them that walk therein. But a spirit in man and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding. In whose hand the soul of every living, and the breath of all mankind.

All scripture giver by inspiration of God, profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, filled with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.

And the Spirit of the LORD came upon me and I prophesied with them, and was turned into another man. The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, his word in my tongue. Therefore I made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also in writing, saying, The LORD God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which in Judah. That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD swear unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. The LORD God gave also his good spirit to instruct me; therefore I will not refrain my mouth. God granted me life and favor, and his visitation preserved my spirit.

Blessed the man unto whom the LORD imputes not iniquity, and in whose spirit is no guile. LORD create in us a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within us. Cast us not away from your presence; and take not your holy spirit from us. Restore unto us the joy of your salvation; and uphold us, a free spirit.

Send forth your spirit, create us; renew the face of the earth. That the spirit of the LORD rest upon us, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. O Lord, by these we live, and in all these is the life of our spirit: so will you recover us, and make us to live that the word of our God stand for ever. Pour water upon the thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. Pour your spirit upon our seed, and your blessing upon our offspring. Amen.

Come near unto me, hear this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning. The Spirit of the LORD God is upon me because the LORD has anointed me to preach good tidings. Cast away from you all transgressions, make a new heart, and put my spirit in you, and you shall live.

Comparing spiritual things with spiritual, you shall live by the power of God toward you. Not by works of righteousness but according to mercy: by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost. Wherefore as the Holy Ghost says, To Day if you will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness.

The Holy Ghost in this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing. The Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said, THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD. I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR HEARTS AND IN THEIR MINDS WILL I WRITE THEM. AND THEY SHALL NOT TEACH EVERY MAN HIS NEIGHBOR, AND EVERY MAN HIS BROTHER, SAYING KNOW THE LORD: FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST. FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, AND THEIR SINS AND INIQUITIES WILL I REMEMBER NO MORE.

Serve in newness of spirit and not the oldness of the letter, that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. You are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in you.

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart, the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. Now the Lord is that Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. That the blessing of Abraham might come on us that we receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his son into your hearts, crying, Ab-ba, Father.

But if you are led of the Spirit, you are not under the law. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. In whom you also are built together for a habitation of God through the Spirit. Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed by the Spirit that we should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel.

According to the riches of his glory, strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man, Christ dwells in your hearts by faith. That you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend and to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, and be filled with all the fullness of God. Endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. One body and one Spirit, one hope, One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who above all, and through all, and in you all.

Renewed in the spirit of your mind, put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption. Stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, having the same love, of one accord. Quench not the Spirit, and the very God of peace shall sanctify you wholly, your whole spirit and soul and body preserved blameless.

Let no man despise your youth; but be an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit. And through the eternal Spirit offers himself without spot to God, purging our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
